Five Ways to Hide Files/Folders in MacBook

Hiding files on MacBook Air 2020 desktop. I honestly don’t know if I’m doing it right but I’ve tried continuously to hide my files. The Terminal doesn’t work and whenever I go on files click on the folder and press  Shift+CMD+(.) nothing happens.
